Nobody Hacked Qubic's Chain. Its Seeds Were Just Guessable. 1,404 Wallets Emptied in 104 Minutes, and the Whole Network Is Still Off
Between 23:42 UTC on October 17 and 01:26 UTC on October 18, an attacker drained about 2.94 trillion QU (roughly $1.3M) from 1,404 Qubic wallets. The chain code wasn't the problem. Recovery seeds made in iPhone and iPad browsers, in Safari on Mac, and in the pre-July-2025 iOS app had too little randomness. Validators halted the chain, and there's still no restart date and no decision on refunds.
